Excellent rains and snowfalls are good news for our region and industry

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During May, June and July our region has received excellent rains and several good snowfalls. This much needed precipitation is excellent news for for our drought stricken region, for our our environment and our industry. The cold weather associated with the precipitation is also very important of our vines as the cold assists good winter dormancy and improves the fertility. This sets the stage well for a good forthcoming harvest.

The water levels in the two main storage dams for the Hex River Valley have increased considerably against the levels at the same time last year as follows:
Roode Elsberg Dam: 2017 – 25% 2018 – 77%
Osplaas Dam: 2017 – 17% 2018 – 68%

This year we have received 90% more rain from April to July than we did last year. The average rainfall until mid July over the past two years compares as follows:
2017: 142 mm
2018: 270 mm
